NSBM Health | Model Display Pavilion

NSBM Health · Homagama

One container. A new architectural purpose.

HCD transformed a single 40 ft High Cube shipping container into a model display pavilion for NSBM Health’s hospital development opposite NSBM Green University.

Completed and handed over in five weeks, the project combines a wider open room, large tempered-glass openings and an exposed-container exterior. It demonstrates HCD’s ability to turn an unconventional configuration into a finished building with lasting value.

Container modification

Changing the proportions changes the possibilities.

HCD cut the container into two 20 ft sections and joined them side by side. The arrangement creates a wider room while retaining approximately the original overall footprint.

The broader layout provides space to view the hospital’s architectural scale model from different angles and accommodate visitors around it. The interior remains open without separate pantry or washroom compartments.

Working from the supplied design, HCD recommended the addition of a roof, developed its architectural design and advised on refinements to the pavilion.

The architecture

The container becomes part of the identity.

The corrugated steel exterior remains exposed in a Halloween Night finish. Its industrial character gives the pavilion a recognisable container-based identity.

Large tempered-glass openings connect the model display with the surrounding site. A front entrance deck defines the arrival point while the architectural roof projects approximately two feet beyond each side.

The added roof completes the building’s outline and provides an additional protective covering above the container.

Interior finishes

A composed setting for the display.

HCD’s Hybrid cement construction type and premium vinyl wood plank flooring create a clear backdrop for the architectural model.

Insulation and air conditioning support indoor comfort. The open layout keeps the hospital model at the centre of the visitor experience.
