Located on one of Dallas’s highest residential elevations overlooking White Rock Lake, the PV14 House explores the expressive potential of industrial materiality and modular construction. Built using fourteen recycled shipping containers, the project challenges conventional notions of domestic architecture by merging sustainability with modern design sophistication.
The home is organized across three levels: an open entertainment zone and garage at ground level, a main living floor containing the kitchen and bedrooms, and a rooftop deck with panoramic city views. The containers are stacked and interlocked around a central circulation core, forming an elevated massing that both grounds the structure and lifts the main living areas above street level for privacy and improved ventilation.
Extensive overhangs and covered terraces shield glazing from direct sunlight while allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the interiors. The combination of high-performance windows, roof shading, and solar screens reduces energy gain and enhances comfort throughout the day.
Material honesty defines the design language - exposed corrugated steel ceilings, structural concrete floors, and custom stair railings constructed from rebar convey a raw yet refined aesthetic. The result is a residence that is both modern and distinctly tied to its industrial origins.
The PV14 House integrates passive environmental strategies with modern building technologies. Its elevated construction allows air to circulate beneath the floor slab, reducing heat transfer from the ground, while its roof deck doubles as a solar screen to prolong the lifespan of the insulated membrane below. Together, these features establish a durable, energy-efficient dwelling that captures the essence of adaptive reuse in contemporary architecture.
Modern Architecture. Local Expertise. Global Inspiration.
Hybrid Cargotecture Development (HCD) brings one of the world’s most admired container home designs- the PV14 Residence from Dallas, Texas - to Sri Lanka. Built using 14 shipping containers and designed for tropical adaptation, this concept redefines what a modern Sri Lankan home can be: sustainable, bold, and breathtakingly beautiful.
Architectural Concept
The PV14-inspired residence blends industrial design with tropical livability. Each level is strategically elevated to capture panoramic views and natural airflow, creating a home that feels open, cool, and connected to the environment.
Large roof decks, shaded balconies, and cross-ventilated interiors turn steel into serenity. The containers’ clean geometric form sits lightly on a pier foundation, minimizing the building’s footprint while maximizing spatial drama and structural efficiency.

Sri Lanka’s homeowners are increasingly seeking faster, greener, and smarter ways to build. HCD transforms that vision into reality with containerized homes that combine global aesthetics with local craftsmanship.
Why wait years to build a home that could be completed in months?
Why spend more on materials that harm the environment when your home can be built from recycled steel engineered to last decades?
HCD offers the future of housing - now.
