Built example you can adapt in Sri Lanka with Hybrid Cargotecture
Project Adriance House, Northern Maine
Architect Adam Kalkin
Builder Sheridan Corporation
Containers 12
Area 4,000 sqft
Typology 2 storeys, grand central hall with bedroom “pods”
Project snapshot
Twelve ISO containers flank a dramatic glass hall that opens to the landscape with a full-height glazed door. Bedrooms, stair galleries and service spaces live inside the container “bars”, while the middle volume delivers a soaring communal space for dining and lounging. The result is robust, fast to assemble and surprisingly refined.
Our team can design and construct a Sri Lanka version with climate-appropriate detailing and approvals.
How the plan works
-
Two stacks of six containers form parallel wings
-
Ground floor containers open for kitchen, living and utility zones
-
Upper containers house bedrooms and private nooks
-
Central glazed nave connects front and back decks for seamless indoor–outdoor living
-
Twin staircases and bridges create a “house within a house” feel
Structure and envelope
-
Containers provide the primary steel frame and lateral stability
-
Engineered cut-outs create wide spans where needed
-
External cladding and continuous insulation manage heat and moisture
-
Large operable glazing drives daylight and cross ventilation
